Cedar Point

Flat Rides

Cedar Point is home to a whopping 21 (adult-sized) flat rides.  Many of them rely on the tried and true "twirl and hurl" mentality, but there are so many variations here you should be able to find several that fit your riding level (or ride 'em all if you've got the time).

Skyhawk

Skyhawk is the tallest screaming swing in the world.  Manufactured by S&S Power, this short ride could literally be explained as the tallest, fastest swing on the planet.  Riders sit back-to-back on one of two 84-foot long arms.  The arms are pneumatically powered to swing back and forth, achieving a maximum speed of 60mph and reaching heights of 125 feet.

This is a fairly short ride, with an average ride time of about 90 seconds.  That said, these things are pretty darn fun.  Obviously, with only 40 people able to ride at any given moment, lines can get very long very quickly.  Kudos to Cedar Point for not making this an upcharge attraction, as some other parks have done with their screaming swings.

And yes, from a distance it totally looks like Optimus Prime's legs.  So?

(Skyhawk has a minimum height requirement of 48 inches)

MaXair

MaXair is a Giant Frisbee ride manufactured by the Huss corporation.  50 riders at a time are seated around the circular base.  As the ride begins, the base rotates in a counterclockwise direction (fairly slowly).  Then the ride kicks it up a notch as the giant pendulum starts to move back and forth.

So essentially riders are swinging back and forth while rotating clockwise at the same time.  As someone who has issues with spinning rides, this sounds like a VERY bad idea; however, the rotation is slow enough so it's not too disorienting.

Only the rotation is slow, however.  As the pendulum swings back and forth, riders are hit with speeds in excess of 70 mph.  At it's highest point, some riders are very nearly upside down 140 feet above the ground.  Yeah, you actually can score a little airtime on this thing.

MaXair is a very popular ride, so expect to wait a bit.  Although it eats 50 riders at a time, that's a lot of restraints to check and double check.

(MaXair has a minimum height requirement of 52 inches)

Power Tower

Visible from nearly anywhere in the park, Power Tower rises 300 feet above the peninsula and features two entirely different ride experiences.  On the red side, riders are shot (utilizing compressed air) from ground level to 240 feet up.  After hitting that height, the ride vehicle is brought back down to the ground via a series of smaller "bounces."  Over on the green side, things are similar but different.  Riders are slowly raised to the maximum height, then they're launched downwards (again, via compressed air) faster than gravity. The one common thread between these two experiences is the amazing view you get from the top (though you have a lot more time to contemplate it if you're on the green side).

There's not much else I can sell you here.  If you like drop towers, both sides of Power Tower are required riding.  If the whole "falling to your death" thing is an issue, maybe you should skip this one.
