West Virginia

Camden Park
Huntington, WV

You can get a great soaking by riding the West Virginia Logging Co log flume.

That splash isn't all show.

If you want a not so soaking wet ride, try these GIANT swans.

They actually have an old carousel, but you might not realize it with the modern paint job. It's a portable style from the early 1900s, so the fact it's still operational is pretty amazing.

Speaking of old rides, the Hawnted House is a rare operational Pretzel gravity driven dark ride. The car is hoisted to the top of the track by a chain (similar to a the way it's done in a wooden coaster), the car is released and the car goes through its circuit.

The ride was made by Pretzel Manufacturing in the late 1920s or early 1930s (the exact date isn't clear.) It's believed to be the oldest one still in operation today. They don't make parts for it anymore, so when it needs repairs the maintenance folks wing it as best they can.

Thank goodness they're a Coke park!

For an additional fee, you can play the mini golf course. By mini, they ain't exaggerating.

Camden Park has a great little train . . . and we're serious when we say little. It doesn't go all the way around the park, but you get to see a little of the behind the scenes bit of the park.

Like this creepy little shack.

Hungry? This is a counter service restaurant with plenty of indoor, air-conditioned seating.

We were hungry, but for something a little more adventurous. . .
