Epcot International Food and Wine Festival 2008
Cities in Wonderland
Honestly, I wasn't bowled over by most of the stuff for sale.
It felt a bit too Pier 1/World Market-y for my tastes.

Honestly, I just don't know if the middle of a theme park is
the place
where you're going to have the epiphany that you really need a wineskin.

But I won't lie. I totally loved the mouse-cheese
serving tray.

The Chef's Showcase is located near the entrance of the
"Cranium Command" attraction.

I see you hiding back there, Body Wars!

I never got a chance to watch the sex-education film "The
Making of Me."
Like most people of my generation, I learned about this stuff by carefully
positioning the cable dial between two stations and magically getting
the image to descramble. You kids today with your internets are SO lucky.

Instead of getting violently ill from riding Body Wars, now
you
can just get good and stupid-drunk at the Mad Hatter's Cellar.

Okay, enough of the Festival Center.
Let's get to the food!

Almost there...

Alright, here we go!

We're doing the clockwise rotation of World Showcase this
time, so the first
stand we encountered was the Reims Champagne stall. It was a little too
early
and way too hot for champagne...
They offered Moet & Chandon Imperial, Rose Imperial, Nectar Imperial, and Nectar
Imperial Rose.
Prices ranged from $8.50 to $11 a glass.

Santiago, Chile brings shrimp with cilantro sauce ($4), dulce
de leche ($2.25) and
the spicy beef empanada ($3.75).
They also had a fine selection of Chilean wine:
Montes 'Limited Selection' Sauvignon Blanc ($3.25)
Montes Classic Series Chardonnay ($2.50)
Montes Alpha Syrah ($4.50), and
Montes 'Limited Selection' Cabarnet-Carmenere ($3.50)
But did I mention the empanada?

I definitely meant to mention it, 'cause it's hella good.

I could probably eat these damned empanadas all day long.
The only
thing keeping me from doing that is the knowledge that there's more
yum elsewhere in World Showcase.

Buenos Aires brings beef and corn pie ($3.75) and grilled
beef with chimichurri sauce ($4.25).
Over in the wine department, there's:
Bodega Norton Reserva Malbec ($4)
Bodega Norton Chardonnay ($2.50)
Bodega Norton Torrontes ($2.75), and
Bodega Norton Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon ($4).
